Chromosomal Hybrid, Santiago de Compostela

Milladoiro is a city that belongs to the municipality of Ames and is 3 km close to the city center of Santiago de Compostela (one of the biggest centers of Christian pilgrimage in the world).
Both cities are connected by the motorway AP-9 and the area has presented a fast development in the last years. Currently, a population around 18,000 habitants lives in the area and the uncontrolled growth has created a very dense system of housing and residential blocks with a lack of urban quality and a poor integration with the nature that surrounds the territory.
The area of the project of elongated shape presents two boundaries defined by a large tree-lined body close to the vial of high density (AP-9) and the road N-550 that cross the middle of the city and cuts the urban network, giving a secondary position to the pedestrian. The North-South orientation, the topography and the integration of nature will be the main steps for the achievement of the chromosomal hybrid project.

A chromosome is a packaged and an organized structure that containing most of the DNA of a living organism. As well as the chromosomes are distinguished by the layout of the centromere, each building acquires its own identity by the placement of vertical communication cores in different locations, creating different types of apartments in shapes, sizes, partitioning and organization.
